Describe the basic procedures used for habituation and latent inhibition.
See green text on page 1 of G doc notes.
Describe some general characteristics of habituation.
See green text on page 1 of G doc notes.
Describe some general characteristics of latent inhibition.
See green text on page 1-2 of G doc notes.
Name the two competing models of attention.
- Pearce and Hall (1980) model
- Wagner (1981) model
Like the Rescorla-Wagner model, both models are presented in mathematical form and both provide explanations for associative learning in animals.
However, I will only consider their psychological properties and evaluate the predictions that they make regarding the conditions under which a stimulus will command attention.
Warning: It turns out that there is an element of truth in both models.
Describe what the Pearce and Hall (1980) model assumes for attention.
See pink text on page 2-3 of G doc notes.
Describe how with the Pearce and Hall (1980) consistent consequences produce latent inhibition.
See pink text on page 3 of G doc notes.
Describe how with the Pearce and Hall (1980) inconsistent consequences maintain the orienting response.
See pink text on page 3-4 of G doc notes.
What does Wagner’s (1981) model tell us about attention hat the Pearce and Hall (1980) doesn’t?
Wagner’s (1981) model, as we shall see, predicts the context-specific nature of latent inhibition.
See green test on page 4-5 of G doc notes.
Describe Wagner’s SOP model (1981).
See blue text on page 5-7 of G doc notes.
