What is agoraphobia? List the diagnostic criteria.
Fear of being in the open, eventually causing the individual to be home-bound. 2 or more symptoms: - public transport - open spaces - enclosed spaces - standing in line/ in crowds - fear of leaving house alone
What role does shyness play in social anxiety?
It predisposes a person to the development of social anxiety. However, it only becomes social anxiety disorder when there is a fear of negative evaluation and avoidance of social situations.
Explain the psychological vulnerabilities that are important in affecting whether individuals go on to develop panic disorders after a panic attack.
