Lecture 3_Immuno Flashcards

1
Q

What are features of innante immunity

A
  1. important in controlling anf eradicating infection before the adaptive immunity becomes active
  2. ready to go as soon as the body is breeched by infection
  3. 1st line of defense. Already in place and it is ready to goooo
  4. has NO zero nada memory
  5. helps provide information to the adaptive immune response (dendritic cells are the bridge-APC’s)

Q

What time after infection will the innate immune system activate?

Q

What is the role of a PAMP?

A

Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns

~ The innate immune system recognizes only a limited number of microbial products that are shared among broad groups of microbes

~Such molecules ARE NOT present on host cells, and are often structures of microbes that are essential for the survival and infectivity of microbes
