Lecture 3 - Protein Structure Flashcards
What is the primary structure of protein?
Specific sequence of amino acids
What is the model that protein have to follow for proper folding?
The oil drop model, where hydrophobic side chains are in the middle and hydrophilic side chains are in the outside.
What are the secondary structure of protein?
Alpha helix and beta pleeted sheats (which are formed through bonds between O and H of the protein backbone)
What is the tertiary structure of protein?
Overall conformation of the polypeptide - the spatial organization of the multiple secondary structure elements
What are motifs? And name 3
They are combinations of secondary structures forming distinct 3D structure. Coiled-coil motif, Helix-loop-helix motif and zinc finger motif
Why do proteins differ from motifs?
Domains are structurally independent entities
