Lecture 3- Probability, Pedigrees, and Chi-Squared Flashcards

Q
null hypothesis
A
- the hypothesis that there is no relationship between a and b, or that the probability (p) that your results are unlikely to be due to chance
- If you fail to reject the null hypothesis, you accept it
- Failing to reject the null hypothesis does NOT mean your results are due to chance, however, just that they PROBABLY are due to chance
- the p value tells you the probability that your results are due to chance and not something else

Q
p-value
A
- Probability that you can reject the null hypothesis
- In other words, probability that your results are due to chance
