-regular names -regular locations -pertain to definite meridians -major part of acupoints -361 of them
extra points
-regular names -regular locations -does not pertain to specific meridans -especially effective in treating certain diseases
usage of acupressure- western perspective
-release muscular tension -promote circulation of blood -modulate funcitons of the nervous system -regulate immunological functions -regulate functions of endocrine system
usage of acupressure- TCM perspective
-balance yin and yang -regulate qi and blood -dredge meridian and activate collaterals -regulate functions of organs -regulate body’s life force energy to aid healing
special acupoint
refer to acupoints on the fourteen meridians with special therapeutic effects -majority of the acupoints bearing special effects and are commonly used in clinical treatment

what is deqi

what are the components of Deqi
- how does the patient feel-dull, achy, full, etc
- what does the therapist feel-firm pressure, light area, etc
- tells about patient (firm=good health, empty=bad/weak) - patient sensation transmission
why do we care about Deqi

acupressure for myofascial pain
trigger points: hyperirritable sponts in skeletal muscle that are painful on deep palpation and give rise to referred pain and motor dysfunction
myofascial pain syndrome
a tender tight cord, nodule, or band which may be accompanied with radiating pain and localizsed muscle twitches
