Lecture 3 Flashcards
What is a Functional Behavior Assessment?
An assessment of a persons behavior which focuses on environmental variables and their effects on behavior.
Carrying out an FBA results in H_________ about behavior and its causes. The goal is determined the F_______ of B_______
- Hypothesis
- Function
- Behavior
Name the 4 Functions of Behavior:
- Attention
- Escape
- Tangible
- Automatic/Sensory
Why is the Function of behavior important?
- Tells us what is causing/maintaining the behavior
2. Can use it to form our Function Based Intervention
A________ :
- From others
- ________ Reinforcement
- Attention
- Positive Reinforcement
Example: Peer Laughter in class
T_______ :
- access to item/food/activity
- ________ Reinforcement
- Tangible
- Positive Reinforcement
Example: Favorite toy, food or activity
E_____ :
- Getting away from/Avoiding a task
- ________ Reinforcement
- Escape
- Negative Reinforcement
Example: Leaving class after misbehaving
S______ / A________ :
- Physical sensation from engaging in behavior
- ________ / ________ Reinforcement
- Sensory/Automatic
- Positive/Negative Reinforcement
Example: Playing with hair because of the sensation it causes
Why are Sd’s important in the Functions of behavior?
The Sd sets the availability for reinforcement and evoke the behavior
Name the 2 Methods of FBA’s:
1.
2.
- Indirect Methods
2. Direct Methods
Direct Methods:
Directly Observing the target behavior
Indirect Methods
Does not involve directly observing the behavior
What is the ONE Indirect Method? and what does this include?
Indirect Assessments form hypothesis from gathering information from others that see the target behavior, this can be: 1. Interviews 2. rating scales/questionnaires 3. Review of existing records and is the easiest.
What are the Direct Methods? and what do they include?
Descriptive Assessments and Experimental Functional Assessments.
Descriptive Assessments is when you observe the persons behavior in the natural environment and behaviors are recorded as they happen.
An Experimental Functional Assessment tests the variables that cause/maintain behaviors.
