What are three types of stroke?
Thrombosis (most common), Embolus, Hemorrhage
Which artery is most commonly affected in a CVA?
Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA)
Which type of vascular injury has the following symptoms
-Symptoms subside in 24 hours
-No residual deficits or symptoms
-Often a precursor to CVA or MI
-Cause unknown but may be cerebral vasospasm or transient systemic arterial hypotenstion
Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
What are two signs of a MCA stroke?
Contralateral hemiplegia (UE), Sensory deficit (UE and face), Homonymous hemianopsia
Which condition is loss of field of vision of one half of both eyes?
Hemianopsia
What are two signs of an ACA stroke?
Contralateral hemiparesis (LE), Sensory loss (LE), Left side neglect, Aphasia, Apraxia
What are two signs of an ICA stroke?
Coma, Death
Two signs of a vertebrobasilar stroke?
Visual loss, Homonymous hemianopsia, Facial numbness, Tinnitus, Dysarthria, Dysphagia, Hemiparesis, Sensory loss, Loss of pain and temperature on opposite side
What are two techniques to inhibit tone?
Taping, Slow rhythmic rocking
What are two techniques to increase tone?
Isometrics, Isotonics
What are two upper extremity complications following a stroke?
Shoulder subluxation, CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome)
What are some techniques to refine motor control in the late stage of stroke rehab?
Biofeedback, PNF, Electrical stimulation
