Lecture 3 Flashcards
Name the measures of central tendency
Mean Medium Mode
What does inferential statistics tell us?
provides evidence for hypothesis which allows us to draw conclusions
What does descriptive statics tell us?
Summarises the sample of data that we collected
How do we measure variability?
Range Interquartile range
What is the interquartile range?
measure of range that includes the middle bulk of scores
How do you calculate sample variance?
S squared= (sum of the total - mean) squared/ sample number - 1
How do u calculate standard deviation?
S= (sum of the total - mean) squared/ sample number - 1, then all square rooted
What are the three disruptions?
Normal positive skewNegative skew
What does a normal distribution consist of?
1) mean, median, mode are the same2) mean is 0, standard deviation of 1
In a normal distribution what percent of the scores are within the 1 standard deviation of the mean?
68.3
In a normal distribution what percent of the scores are within the 2 standard deviation of the mean?
95.4
In a normal distribution what percent of the scores are within the 3 standard deviation of the mean?
99.7
