Q

What was the lunar study?

A

A Lunar Study Steering Group (LSSG) was set up 1990 to study scientific justifications for a return to the Moon. It was built on an earlier interferometry study carried out by ESA

Q

What is the radial velocity detection method?

A

Analyze spectrum for the doppler effect basically. Fitting radial velocity with keplerian gives 4/6 orbital elements

Q

What is the transit detection method?

A

By detecting changes in flux when a planet passes in front of a star, properties of the planet can be derived.

Q

Pros/cons of the transit method?

A

Lots of precious information can be gathered like atmosphere composition, albedo and star system obliquity.

Low probability to detect transit
Most sensitive on planets close to star
Easy to produce false positive
