Lecture 25- HT diff means/prop Flashcards

Q

If the T statistic is away from the center of the distribution what are the two possibilities?

A
  • H naught is true its just a very rare statistic

- H naught is not true the test statistic follows a different distribution (alternative hypothesis)

Q

What’s a 2 sided hypothesis, how is it different to a 1 sided hypothesis?

A
  • 2 sided is what have been currently doing. It’s where you consider differences from the null in either direction.
  • 1 sided hypothesis tests is where we focus on either entirely positive or entirely negative changes from the null (how to do them is not covered in STAT110).
