Q

Inherent Feedback

A
  • comes from within –> the senses
  • can see that the ball didn’t make it into the net
  • can feel that the boat isn’t set properly
  • proprioception
  • information provided as the movement is carried out is usually sufficient to tell whether the outcome will be successful or not

Q

Augmented Feedback

A
  • comes from an outside source
  • a coach providing verbal feedback
  • engine light on a car

Table 12.1 Dimensions of Augmented Feedback

Concurrent: presented during the movement
Terminal: presented after the movement
Immediate: presented immediately after the relevant action
Delayed: delayed in time after the relevant action
Verbal: presented in a form that is spoken or capable of being spoken
Nonverbal: presented in a form that is not capable of being spoken
Accumulated: feedback that represents an accumulation of past performance
Distinct: feedback that represents each performance separately
KR: verbalized postmovement information about the outcome of the movement in the environment
KP: verbalized postmovement information about the nature of the movement pattern

Q

what is the difference between Knowledge of Performance and Knowledge of Results?

A
  • KP is the ability to know how well you have performed a certain skill (run-up to hit a volleyball performed correctly)
  • KR is knowing whether the result of that skill was successful or not (ball went over the net and stayed withing court boundaries)

Q

Knowledge of Performance

A

(KP)

  • concerns the movement pattern that the learner has made
  • more related to feedback that instructors give –> elbow was bent
  • can refer to processes in the body that the subject is generally unaware of –> blood pressure

Q

Knowledge of Results

A

(KR)

  • verbalizable terminal feedback about the outcome of the movement in terms of the environmental goal
  • can be highly specific or general
  • NOT feedback about the movement itself –> i.e. ‘your elbow was bent”

Q

What is the evidence that suggests video feedback enhances performance?

A
  • needs correctional cues
  • does not increase performance with just the video
  • find the fricking video/article thing that told you this tho

Q

Schmidt and Winstein feedback frequency paper?

A
  • less is more
  • too much feedback can overwhelm the performer with too much to remember so it’s best to give small amounts at a time
  • “learn to shut up”
  • depends on the type of feedback –> negative/positive, amount of detail, visual/auditory/etc.
