Lecture 2 (Cranial Nerves) Flashcards
Where is CN VIII found?
Pons AND Medulla
What Cranial nerves are found in the midbrain
CN III, IV
Where is the red nucleus found?
Midbrain
Where is the 4th ventricle found
Pons AND Medulla
Where is the Pyramid, Olive and vertebral arteries found?
Medulla
What is the Sulcus Limitans?
In the floor of the fourth ventricle, the sulcus limitans separates the cranial nerve motor nuclei (medial) from the sensory nuclei (lateral).
Sensory portion is found (dorsal/ventrally)
Dorsal - also known as the Alar plate
T or F: The sulcus limitans seperates sensory from motor in the MIDBRAIN
FALSE: There are no sensory nuclei in the midbrain since there is only CN III & IV (Both motor nerves)
Which cranial nerves are in the same column for Somatic Motor?
III, IV (Midbrain) VI (Pons) XII (Medulla)
Which cranial nerves are in the same column for brachial motor?
V, VII (Pons) IX, X (medulla)
Which cranial nerves are in the same column for Visceral Motor
III (Midbrain) VII (Pons) IX, X (Medulla)
What are the 2 “subregions” Of the midbrain?
Rostral MB Caudal MB
The red nucleus and CN III can be seen in the Rostral/Caudal view of Midbrain?
Rostral only
What is the function of the Superior and Inferior Colliculus and where are the found?
Superior - Preliminary visual processing Inferior - Auditory processing Found in the Quadrigeminal plate of the MIDBRAIN
What is the function of the Cerebral peduncles (Crus Cerebri) and where is it found?
Relay for cortico-spinal, cortico-pontine and cortic-bulbar tracts Found in midbrain
