How many arteries supply the brain with blood. Name them.
There are four in total. Two vertebral and two carotid arteries.
Which main artery supplies blood to the eye?
Internal carotid artery (branch: ophthalmic artery).
Describe the anatomy of the communicating arteries.
They make up the circle of willis by connecting the right and left parts.
Which part of the brain receives the blood supply from the anterior cerebral artery?
The (whole) medial part of the cortex.
Which artery is the biggest one? Where is its origin and which brain regions are supplied by that artery?
The medial cerebral artery. It originates in the internal carotid artery and supplies the most lateral parts of the cortex, as well as the Insular.
Damage to which brain area might lead to Anomia? Which artery supplies blood to this area?
Damage to the ventral temporal area. Blood supply comes from the posterior cerebral artery.
What constitutes a so-called ‘Watershed Infarction’?
Blood cannot reach the territories where the arteries meet due to very low blood pressure, leading to infarction in these areas.
Describe the main feature of the emissary veins.
These veins lead out of the skull.
When it comes to hemorrhages, which blood vessels are more often involved, arteries or veins? Why?
Veins are more often involved in hemorrhages because of their thinner walls.
Occlusion of which artery will affect the internal capsule?
Occlusion of the medial cerebral artery.
