Lecture #2 Flashcards
Primary Tooth Calcification
Calcification begins in utero 13-16 weeks, by 18-20 weeks ALL have begun to calcify
Calcification of primary central incisor crowns
Birth-3 months
Calcification of primary lateral incisor crowns
4 months
Calcification of primary first molars
7 months
Calcification of primary canines
8.5 months
Calcification of primary secondary molars
10.5 months
Sequence of Eruption
Central Incisor Lateral Incisor First Molar Canine Second Molar *Variation can occur* *Tooth size, morphology and formation are highly inheritable characteristics*
Types of Cementoenamal Junction
- Enamel overlaps cementum
- End to end
- Gap exposing dentin
- Cementum overlapping enamel
- Enamel extending into bifurcation of molars (creates periodontal risks)
Fluorosis
Excess fluoride 一> causes white/brownish spots or bands
Tetracycline
while teeth are forming tetracycline may affect teeth, turning them brown to bluish colors
Mandibular Central Incisor
Smallest tooth in the mouth
Develops from 4 lobes (3 facial 1 lingual)
Labiolingual dimension is 1mm less than maxillary central (lots of force)
Root is narrow M一>D but wide labiolingual
incisor angles are 90*
Bilaterally symmetrical
Root outline is straight from cervix through middle third, then tapers rapidly
