Lecture 2 Flashcards
What is a purpose of x ray machine ?
Provide a specific current (mA) & voltage (kVp) to the x-ray tube
( controls the energy and number of the x-ray photons )
convert electrical energy to electromagnetic energy (x- ray photons)
What are the main components of radiographic room ?
- High Voltage Generator
- X-ray Tube
- Operating Console
- X-ray Table
High voltage generator ?
Converts the low voltage supplied from the power company into high Kilovoltage ( produce x rays)
Connected to the x-ray tube via cables
It is also called Transformer
X ray generator ?
It controls the energy and number of x rays
Has 2 major parameters that describes x ray exposure such as ?
Kvp and mAs
x ray tube support ?
Provides support and mobility for the tube
Has 2 types :
Ceiling mount/ suspension , Sets of rails controls
Floor stand , mounted on floor
What is designed to help technologists with various tube locations for creative imaging ?
Tube support
Such as : Floor mounted , Floor to wall mounted , Floor to ceiling mounted , Table supported and overhead suspension
X ray tube housing ?
Lead and steel , absorbs radiation
and Prevents x-ray photons from leaking from tub
what are other component’s on x ray tube ?
Collimator light , Collimator controls
, Transverse lock and horizontal lock
Collimator ?
Attached to tube housing
Controls the size of radiation field
light provides centering lines to aid in alignment of IR to patient
Always collimate smaller than the size of cassette
Input device for setting exposure factors, activating the exposure, and on/off powering of the unit is ?
x ray console - control ( located in shielded control booth )
which set technical factors/ make an exposure
Control panel of an x ray unit contains ?
The main switch , Indicator light , Exposure button and Control device
Radiographic table ?
Specialized unit that supports the patient
Most move in several directions
Moveable IR tray with a grid located under top
Holds bucky ( limit 300Ibs)
Easily cleaned and hard to scratch
3 ways of radiographic table ?
Tilting or Non-tilting
Free-floating , motorized or stationary top
Adjustable or non-adjustable height
Tilting ?
90-90 tilting table : Can tilt from the horizontal position to a complete vertical position in either direction
90-30 tilting table: Can tilt from the horizontal position to a complete vertical position in one direction and to a 30 degree tilt in the other direction
Free floating or stationary top ?
Free floating : Has a locking mechanism that when it is turned off, allows the radiographer to move the table top manually
Motorized : Has a switch that drive the table top in the desired direction
Stationary : The table top does not move, the radiographer must move the patient
