3
Q

What is absolute pressure?

A

The actual pressure at a given position. It is measured relative to absolute vacuum (i.e. absolute zero pressure).

Q

What is gage pressure?

A

The difference between the absolute pressure and the local atmospheric pressure. Most pressure-measuring devices are calibrated to read zero in the atmosphere.

Q

What is Pascal’s Law?

A

The pressure applied to a confined fluid increases the pressure throughout by the same amount - P₁ = P₂ → F₁/A₁ = F₂/A₂ → F₂/F₁ = A₂/A₁
