Lecture 2 Flashcards
What is the zeroth law of thermodynamics?
If two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with a third body, they are also in thermal equilbrium with each other.
How do you convert Celsius into Kelvin?
Add 273.15; 0°C = 273.15K
What is absolute pressure?
The actual pressure at a given position. It is measured relative to absolute vacuum (i.e. absolute zero pressure).
What is gage pressure?
The difference between the absolute pressure and the local atmospheric pressure. Most pressure-measuring devices are calibrated to read zero in the atmosphere.
What is vacuum pressure?
Pressures below atmospheric pressure.
What is Pascal’s Law?
The pressure applied to a confined fluid increases the pressure throughout by the same amount - P₁ = P₂ → F₁/A₁ = F₂/A₂ → F₂/F₁ = A₂/A₁
List the macroscopic and microscopic forms of energy.
Macroscopic: kinetic, potential
