- 3 field system - boosted productivity by 50% so population doubled between 1000 and 1300
- more output led to more horses so 4 wheeled carts introduced leading to enhanced agricultural productivity
- more productive agriculture meant less hands needed to farm more skills developed

the lords enclosed common land for their own use rather than public use

unified england gradually weakening feudal ties

granted english ship owners protection and rights of specific trades who were supported by monarchs and governments
