Lecture 2 Flashcards
Aneuploidy
The occurance of one or more extra or missing chromosomes in a cell or organism
Trisomy
the presence of 3 chromosomes instead of the usual 2
Nondisjunction
Failure of the chromosomes to separate; produces daughter cells with abnormal numbers of chr
Karyotype
an individual’s complete set of chromosomes
Tripoloidy
3n; rare condition where a cell has 69 total chr instead of 46 (2n)
Gametogenesis
production of gametes from haploid precursor cells
Kinetochore
A complex of proteins associated with the centromere of a chromosome during cell division, to which the microtubules of the spindle attach
Choesion
the attraction of molecules for other molecules of the same kind
Recombination
process by which pieces of DNA are broken and recombined to produce new combinations of alleles
