What is intergroup threat theory?

A

Developed by Stephan.
In brief, Intergroup Threat Theory explores how perceived threats between different social groups can contribute to intergroup conflict, prejudice, and discrimination. It suggests that when one group perceives another as a threat to its well-being or resources, negative attitudes and behaviors may arise as a means of coping with or neutralizing the perceived threat.
