Q
What is one purpose of the PPS?
A
Ribose-5-phosphate is needed for nucleotide synthesis

Q
What is another purpose of the PPS?
A
NADPH is needed to reduce glutathione, to synthesize fatty acids, nitric oxide, and steroids/sterols to detoxify drugs (cytochrome P450), and as part of the respiratory burst
