Lecture 17. Plant Cell Engineering 2 Flashcards
1
Q
How can plants be used to create synthetic sensors, allowing for learning how receptor functions?
A
Express plant proteins in yeast so no interference from endogenous system. Yeast have no way of perceiving auxin
2
Q
How does phytochrome B operate as a synthetic switch?
A
Changes conformation depending on being in the presence of red light or far-red light. Start and stop expression of genes
3
Q
How does ABA allow for synthetic sensing?
A
Change receptor in plants to no longer recognise APA, now recognise a fungicide but still trigger the ABA response. Chemical helps to stop the effects of drought
