Lecture 15 Flashcards
What is a completely randomized design? (CRD)
Individuals are assigned at random to each treatment (factors) so that all individuals are independent
What is a randomized block design (RBD)
When one individual in each treatment is related to one particular individual in each of the other treatments
What is the two-factor ANOVA randomized block a multiple-sample extension of?
Paired sample t-test because the blocks are what pair the samples
What is a Model III ANOVA?
(Mixed-model) where one factor is fixed and the other is random
In a Model III ANOVA, which of the factors is fixed?
The factor of general interest
In a two-factor ANOVA, what is variation due to?
The total variation, the error variation, and the fixed factor variation (the factor of interest)
What is the purpose of randomly blocking in a two-factor ANOVA with randomized blocks?
To pair the individuals in the sample with treatments and to minimize error that would have gone into the unexplained variation
