Lecture 13 - Thalamus Flashcards

1
Q

Thalamus

A
  • connects just about every brain structure with just about every other brain structure
  • relays and processes information
  • particularly important for most of the senses

Q

Mediodorsal nucleus

A
  • Medial division
  • input to olfactory cortex and spinothalamic tract
  • output to olfactory inputs go to insular and orbitofrontal cortex

Q

Ventral later and ventral anterior nuclei

A
  • Ventral division
  • inputs from cerebellum, globus pallidus, substantia nigra

Q

Ventral posterior, VPL, VPM

A
  • Ventral division
  • inputs from medial lemniscus, spinothalamic tract, trigeminothalamic tract, solitariothalamic tracts
  • outputs to somatosensory cortices (3, 1, 2) and some area 4, as well as taste to insular cortex
  • pain+temp+somatosensation and flavor
