Lecture 13 - Adaptation with Anaerobic Training Flashcards
how do we test changes in anaerobic power and capacity
- Wingate anaerobic tests closest to gold standard for ANA power test
- ANA power and capacity will increase with training
anaerobic adaptations in the muscle
- increases in type 2a, 2x cross sectional area
- increase in type 1 cross sectional area (lesser extent)
- decrease percent of type 1 fibres, increase percent of type 2
anaerobic adaptations to the ATP-PCr system
- little enzymatic change with training
- ATP-PCr system-specific training leads to increases in strength
anaerobic adaptations to the glycolytic system
- increase in key glycolytic enzyme activity with training (phosphorylase, PFK, LDH, hexokinase)
- however, performance gains from increase in strength
hormonal adaptations we see with HITT
mitochondrial enzyme cytochrome oxidase (COX) increases the same after HIT vs traditional moderate-intensity endurance training
HITT
time efficient way to induce any adaptations normally associated with endurance training
adaptations we see regarding the specificity of training and cross-training
- VO2max substantially higher in athletes sport specific actitivy
- likely due to individual muscle group adaptations
what is cross training and what are its benefits
training different fitness components at once OR training for more than one sport at once
- strength benefits blunted by endurance training
- endurance benefits not blunted by strength training
