Q

what are the 2 macrophage phenotypes ?

A

M1 : maintain inflammatory state in order to wait for all the other cells to arrive to the wound site

M2 : release cytokines to promote a regenerative environment -> proliferation and differention of progenitor cells to repair tissue.

Q

what are the 2 important roles of immune cells in wound healing ?

A

1) clean wound and fight infection

2) release cytokines that facilitate the regeneration of new tissue by the proliferation cells

Q

What is the worst thing someone could do if they cut their finger tip ?

A

Close the wound (suture skin together) because that prevent the clotting to happen in a physiological way

Q

What are the 3 main approaches to tissue regeneration ?

A

1) cell therapy : stem cells

2) materials and cytokines : stimulate our already existing cells with signals

3) gene therapy : make our cells produce the signals

Q

what are the three stem cells therapies that are accredited to work ?

A

1) hematopoietic SC (bone marrow transplant)

2) keratinocyte SC (skin grafts)

Q

What can MSCs be used for ?

A

1) tissue regeneration (skeletal lineages)

2) they also secrete immune modulating factors -> they can help other cells to regenerate the tissue
