Lecture 11_Habakkuk and Zephaniah (pt 2) Flashcards
Micah was a contemporary of
Isaiah and shares many similarities (for example compare Isaiah 2:2-4 with Micah 4:1-3).
Throughout the book Habakkuk, and thus God’s people,
learn to increasingly trust in the faithfulness of God
Habakkuk is similar to Job in that like Job
Habakkuk pours out a lament to God for perceived injustice.
Habakkuk’s first complaint is that
the Law is powerless in the face of the corruption of the people.
In his second complaint Habakkuk
does not understand why God continues to allow evil (i.e. theodicy).
An essential theme of Nahum is
fall of Assyria and truth that God punishes evil aggression against His people
Zephaniah largely concerns
the Day of the Lord
i.e. God’s coming in judgment upon universal false worship
