Lecture 1 Terms Flashcards
Anterior Guidance
influence of contacting surfaces of anterior teeth on tooth limiting mandibular movement
Group Function
multiple contact relation btw maxillary and mandibular teeth in lateral movements on working side
Protrusion/ Protrusive Movement
position of mandible anterior to centric relation
Left Lateral excursion
-rotation of left side of condyle and forward, inward, and downward translation of non-working condyle
Right Lateral Excursion
rotation of the right or working side condyle and forward, inward, downward translation of the non-working condyle
Laterotrusion
movement of condyle on working side in the horizontal plane
mediotrusion
movement of non-working condyle medially
Bennett Movement
mandible shifts toward working side (0.75 mm)
Bennett Angle
angle btw anterior and medial movement of non-working condyle and the straight protrusive path
Functional Movement
Chewing, swallowing, talking within confines of movement
Maximal intercuspal position
complete intercuspation of teeth independent of condylar pos. (varies with individual)
Centric occlusion
occlusion of teeth when mandible is in centric relation (may or may not coincide with max. intercuspal position)
Centric position
position of mandible when jaws are in centric relation
Retruded contact
can be more retruded than centric position
guided relation when condyles are most retruded
Postural position
any mandibular relationship during minimal muscle contraction
