What is hemostasis?
A process that stops blood loss upon vascular injury, in order to keep the blood within the blood vessels.
What is hemostasis part of in the body’s system?
It’s part of the body’s defense system.
Why was there no need of a hemostasis system before the evolution of the vertebrates?
Before vertebrates evolved, the simpler body structures, lower pressures in circulatory systems (if present at all), and less active lifestyles meant there was little need for an advanced hemostatic system. Most of them had open circulatory systems.
From what was hemostasis probably evolved from?
The innate immune system
