Lecture 1 - Intro/Review Flashcards
3 perio treatment modalities
- patient specific risk factors
- severity of disease
- patient preferences
T/F - Always use a single therapy for perio
F - can be considered supervised neglect
Perio Health:
- probing depth of ____ - ____ mm
- no history of _______ ____
- no clinical signs of ___________
- 1 - 3 mm
- attachment loss (AL)
- inflammation
If a patient has normal probing depths, normal JE levels, but has periodontal inflammation, what is the diagnosis?
what other characteristic may be present with inflammation?
gingivitis, BOP
- must have AL for perio
What are the 2 types of gingivitis?
plaque induced, non-plaque induced
If a patient has 4 mm of attachment loss somewhere, recession of JE (AL), and inflammation, what is the diagnosis?
periodontitis
What are the two main types of periodontitis?
chronic, aggressive
Distingiush between localized and generalized aggressive periodontitis.
- localized: affects 1st molar and incisors along, and two or less other teeth
- generalized: affects 3 or more teeth other than 1st molar and incisors
What is the 7-step sequence for general approach to periodontal care?
- exam
- diagnosis
- ID risk factors
- prognosis
- offer treatment alternatives
- get informed consent
- treat patient
