Lecture 1 Constraints Gestalt Flashcards
Define constraint
Anything about a design project that you cannot change
Webster.com Definition of constraint
Something that limits or restricts someone or something
What are the five constraints?
- Market
- Functional
- Legal
- Social / Economical
- Natural
Define market constraint
Project budgets, deadlines, intended product placement, etc.
Define functional constraints
Intended way a piece needs to communicate, printing, or digital parameters, etc.
Define legal constraints
Building codes, regulations, ADA, accessibility, etc.
Define social/emotional constraints
Learn behaviors and/or expectations of clients and consumers
Define natural constraints
Elements and principles of design, Gestalt principles, etc.
Define the official definition of Gestalt
What is the literal meaning of Gestalt?
Shape and Form
What is and define Gestalt Principal I
Figure-Ground
The figure-ground phenomenon captures the idea that in perceiving a visual field, some object takes a prominent rule while others received into the background.
What is and define Gestalt Principal II
Similarity
The principle of similarity captures the idea that elements will be grouped perceptually if they are similar to each other.
What is and define Gestalt Principal III
Proximity
Objects that are grouped together than become a single perceived object. The law of proximity states that we perceived a collection of objects, we will see objects close to each other as forming a group.
What is and define Gestalt Principal IV
Closure
A lot of closure states that we perceptionally close up or complete objects that are not, in fact complete
What is and define Gestalt Principal V
Continuation
The law of continuation holds that there is an innate Tendency to perceive a line as a continuing it’s established direction that is, we tend to continue contours when we proceed them to be heading in an implied direction.
