Q

Define dendrite

A

One of the threadlike extensions of the cytoplasm of a neuron. Compose most of the receptor sites on the surface of neuron (receives info)

Q

Define axon

A

Singular fiber that carries info away (sometimes long distance) from the cell body to synapse sites of other neurons, muscles, or glands

Q

Define myelin

A

Surrounds the axon of the neuron - lines the nerve fibers, aids in quick and accurate transmission of electrical current carrying data from one nerve cell to the next

Q

Define gray matter

A

Cell bodies and dendrites and/or unmyelinated axons, color comes from capillaries and lack of myelin, cerebral cortex, and central portion of spinal cord
