Lecture 1 Cells&tissues Flashcards
Chemical level
The building blocks of the body
Examples of the chemical level
Atoms (smallest stable units of matter) and these joint to form molecules (complex shapes and activities)
Cellular level
Cells are the basic structural and functional units of body
Tissue level
Tissues are groups of cells that works together to perform a particular function
Types of tissues
Epithelial, connective, muscle, nerve
Organ level
Organs are structures with specific functions composed of two or more types of tissues
System level
A system consists of related organs with a common function
Organismal level
All the parts of the body function together to constitute a living organism.
Six levels of structural organisation
Chemical, Cellular, Tissue, Organ, System, Organismal
Eleven body systems
Integumentary Muscular Skeletal Nervous Endocrine Lymphatic and Immune Cardiovascular Respiratory Digestive Urinary Reproductive
What’s under cutaneous membrane?
Epidermis, Dermis
The function of Epidermis
Covers surface
Protects deeper tissues
Vitamin D production
The function of dermis
Feeds epidermis(send nutrients to epidermis)
Strength
Glands
Hair follicles
Sensation from innervation
Hairs
Protection
