Q

what is the significance of glacial striations?

A

glacial striations provide evidence of ice transport!

they can show the direction of glacial movement, speed and pressure of the movement, and also provides evidence of past glacial periods by allowing identification of past areas with ice coverage

Q

what are dropstones/lonestones and what do they indicate?

A

dropstones are isolated large pebbles which are deposited in much finer-grained sediment.

they are floated in by ice-bergs and dropped into the finer sediment when the ice melts.

they indicate floating ice as icebergs can travel long distances

Q

what are some geological indicators of palaeoclimate?

A

weathering and soil formation: warm and wet climates have more weathering while cold climates experience less weathering

coral reefs dominantly restricted to tropical latitudes

peats and coals
