Lecture 1 Flashcards
Y- shaped triradiate cartilage ossifies at
13th- 15th year
Ossification of ischiopubic ramus occurs at
6th-8th year
The hip bone completely ossifies at
18-20-25 years
Other names for hip bone?
pelvic bone, innominate bone, coxal bone
All secondary centres of of hip bone ossify at ?
~25 years old
Most inferior part of aponeurosis of external oblique muscle?
Inguinal ligament
Where does the inguinal ligament attach?
ASIS - pubic tubercle, some fibers reflects towards superior pubic ramus
What is the lacunar ligament?
Fibers of inguinal lig. that reflect to the superior pubic ramus.
What is the pectineal ligament?
The continuation of the lacunar lig. that proceeds on the pectineal crest of the superior pubic ramus, which blends with the other connective tissue that turns back into the inguinal lig. forming the iliopectineal arch.
What are the two spaces under the inguinal lig.?
Vascular Lacuna (VL) and Neuromuscular Lacuna (NM)
What runs through the Neuromuscular Lacuna (NM)?
Iliacus joined by the iliopsoas
Iliopsoas muscles attaches on?
The lesser trochanter
Which nerve runs superficial the iliopsoas? ( hint: largest nerve of lumbar plexus)
Femoral n
NM lacuna has which two structure passing through it?
Iliopsoas and femoral n
Vascular Lacuna content medial to lateral? (hint: 4 things)
Most medially- deep inguinal lymph node within the femoral ring
Next- femoral vein
Most laterally- femoral artery, and femoral branch of the genitofemoral n
Where is the entrance site of femoral herniation?
Femoral ring
What nerve supplies the skin over the femoral triangle?
Femoral branch of the genitofemoral n
What are the two parts of the obturator foramen?
Obturator membrane, which almost covers the the entire foramen, and the obturator canal (superiorly)
Obturator canal is formed by the?
Inferior surface of the superior pubic ramus, and upper edge (sometimes very sharp/ ossified) of the obturator membrane
What runs through the obturator canal?
Neurovascular bundle: obturator nerve/ artery and vein
Attachment of Sacrospinous lig.
Anterior to sacrotuberous lig.
- between the apex of ischial spine and lateral margin of lower sacrum.
Forms greater and lesser sciatic foramina
Attachment of sacrotuberous lig.
- SPIS
- Post. sacroiliac lig.
- Lower lateral sacral crest
- Lateral margins of lower sacrum and upper coccyx
Iliolumbar lig. 2 parts?
Sup. part- attaches to iliac crest lateral to attachment of QL
Ant. part- attach and enhance fibrous capsule of the sacroiliac joint
Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis is? What happens? Age? Causes? Symptoms?
- Weakened epiphyseal growth plate
- Femoral head may slip away from femoral neck
- Adolescents 10-17 yrs old (male 2-3x more common)
- Acute trauma or rep. micro trauma
- Can present as knee pain
Describe patella
Sesamoid bone within quadriceps tendon. increases leverage or quadriceps Femoris m. by making it act at a greater angle.
What is the purpose of Gerdy’s anterolateral tibial tubercle( iliotibial tract) ?
Serves for the attachment of the IT band
What is a bumper fracture?
Fracture of lateral tibial plateau when struck from side by a car bumper
Most common site for tibial shaft Fx?
Middle-inferior thirds. Narrowest parts with less blood supply
What Fxs are common in soccer and basketball?
Fx of med/lat malleoli
The disruption of the epiphyseal plate at the tibial tuberosity is known as? (Hint: one of the most common causes of knee pain in in adolescents age 10-15)
Osgood-Schlatter syndrome
The collapse of the articular surface of the second metatarsal head is known as?
Freiberg Disease
An accessory ossicle that is a secondary ossification center of talus that fails to unite with the body of talus
Os Trigonum
an additional piece of bone
What nerves supply L1? Lateral to medial
Lateral cutaneous br. of iliohypogastric, lateral cutaneous br. of subcostal, femoral br. of genitofemoral, and ilioinguinal n.
