Lecture 1 + 2 Flashcards
What is in the cell is not equal to
what’ seen in the formula bar
give an example of an array
C6: C12
What is an array
collection of different cells in a row or column
Give me the 3 types of data entry
typing in
copying and pasting data
autofill option
what to remeber when typing in data
press enter
what is excels assumption when copying a formula
you want RELATIVE REFERENCING
What does relative referencing do
automatically enter the cells in the column or row when doing a formula
e.g it will do A1 X B1
A1 X B2
A1 X B3
What does ABSOLUTE REFERENCING /FIXING THE REFERENCE do?
prevents relative referencing occuring
means something will be x(or operationalised) by the same cell even when drag something down
fixing the value of a particular cell reference.
how do you do absolute referencing
adding a dollar sign e.g
why would ? x $E2 work
E is locked in but as you move down you have E3 , E4 but for the purposes of this case
nothing would be there
what does B2 * $E$2 mean
locks E2 in place as the multiplication cell
this means even if you drag down / autofill each cell i.e B3 B4 will be * by E2
what does ? * E$2 mean and when would this be helpful
column reference is absolute
row reference is relative
lock a specific column (in this case, column E) while allowing the row number to change as you drag the reference to different cells.
what happens when I press F4 once , twice , three times , four times
If you hold down F4 it will add dollar signs to lock cell+ number
If pressed again it will lock the number
If pressed again lock letter
If pressed again goes back to og
