Q

Responsibility of Aerodrome Control

A

Aerodrome Control shall issue information and instructions to aircraft under its control to achieve a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic with the objective of preventing collisions between:
- aircraft flying in, and in the vicinity of, the ATZ;
- aircraft taking-off and landing;
- aircraft and vehicles, obstructions and other aircraft on the manoeuvring area.

Periods of Display

A

The runway guard lights and illuminated holding point signs are to be lit at all times when the watch is open.
AGL shall be displayed as necessary at least 15 minutes prior to an expected arrival and for 15 minutes after a departure.

25
Factors to consider when selecting the RWY in use?
- Traffic pattern, - the length of runways or landing runs - Approach aids available - Any meteorological conditions which may be significant to the choice of runway. Other; - Efficiency - Noise abatement.
26
What is the preferential runway and why?
**RWY 26** - Generally departure performance criteria are more favourable, - Instrument approach procedures are more expeditious, - Approach lighting is of a higher specification. - Airport layout.
27
Who shall be informed when changing runways?
Aerodrome Control, after consultation with Approach Control, shall perform the following at a time agreed with Approach Control to instigate the runway change: - Aircraft under their control; - Aerodrome Fire Service; - Contractors working on the aerodrome who will be affected by the change; - Other agencies according to local instructions. - Make a broadcast stating the new Runway in Use MATS 2 (Inform the parties listed in MATS Part 1)
28
What equipment needs to be updated when the runway has been changed?
Select the following equipment to the new Runway in Use 1) Aerodrome Ground Lighting (AGL) 2) Surface Wind Indicator 3) Any aide-memoire in use 4) ILS 5) ATIS
