Q

MMPs do what?

A

general contractor!
1. remove damaged ECM/bacteria in inflammation
2. proliferation= latticework for angiogenesis
3. remodeling = contraction of scar ECM
too many MMPs= nothing gets done! wounds become chronic

16
Q

primary closure

A

wound is cleaned and edges are physically approximated and fixed (sutures/staples)

17
Q

secondary closure

A

wound left open, follows three phases of wound healing to close

18
Q

wound that is chronic is defined as

A

-medicare: wound that does not heal in 30 days
-definition: stuck in a phase

19
Q

senescent cells

A

take up resources, do not contribute
present in chronic wounds

20
Q

chronic wounds have

A

senescent cells
greater bioburden
higher levels of MMPs
biofilm present

21
Q

induration is

A

thickening/hardening
