Lecture 1 Flashcards
Anatomical Concepts and Terminology
What is a synarthrotic joint and give examples
Immobile joint no movement, bony joint and fibrous joint
What is an ampiarthrotic joint and give examples
partial, minor movement, cartilaginous joint
What is a diarthrotic joint, and give examples
freely mobile joint with wide range of movement, synovial joint
What is a bony joint and how is it formed?
Occurs when space between 2 or more joints ossify, occurs during growth and development
Give examples of a bony joint
hip bone, epiphyseal line or frontal bone
What is a fibrous joint?
Space between 2 or more bones are filled with strong, fibrous connective tissue
Give examples of a fibrous joint
sutures of skull
What are synovial joints?
most joints are synovial joints, space between 2 or more bones is encased by strong fibrous capsule
Give examples of synovial joints
shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and knuckles
What is the agonist and antagonist of elbow flexion?
Biceps brachii = agonist
Triceps brachii = antagonist
What plane is flexion and extension on and what is the axis of rotation
Saggital plane
transversal axis is the axis of rotation
Name the 6 types of synovial joints
Gliding
Hinge
Pivot
Condylar
Saddle
Ball and Socket
What plane and axis of rotation is used in shoulder flexion?
Plane = sagittal
Axis = mediolateral
What plane and axis of rotation is used in lateral flexion of the trunk?
Plane: frontal or coronal
Axis: anteroposterior
What plane and axis of rotation is used in leg abduction?
Plane: frontal or coronal
Axis: anteroposterior
