Lecture 1 Flashcards
What is the associated variables convention?
The charge flows from the positive to the negative. Opposite of actual electron flow
What is a two terminal resistor?
Any two terminal element that has an algebraic relation between its instantaneous current and its instantaneous voltage
What is the associated variables convention?
It defines the current flow to be in at the device terminal assigned to be positive in voltage.
What is voltage?
Voltage is the electric potential difference, or the difference in charge between to terminals.
What is a general resistor?
In this text/course, a general resistor is defined as a resistor whose terminal current and voltage depend only on the instantaneous values of each other.
What happens to the measure of the voltage of a battery that is attached negative to positive rather than positive to positive?
The sign is reversed (2V becomes -2V)
What is an independent voltage source?
The voltage is independent of the rest of the circuit and remains constant regardless of the rest of the circuit.
What is a dependant voltage source?
A voltage source that supplies a voltage as commanded by a signal from within the circuit of which the source is a part.
What is an ideal linear resistor?
A resistor that obeys ohms law
How can a wire with an important resistance component be modeled?
As an ideal wire with an ideal resistor.
What does the elemental law describe??
The elements V-I relationship.
What is the element law for a resistor?
v=iR
What is another name for the element law?
The element relation.
What is the element law for an independent voltage source?
V=v
What is the element law for a ideal wire?
v=0
