Q

How is “Marine Biochemistry and Physiology” different from “Regular Biochemistry and Physiology”?

A
  • differing situations derived from being surrounded by water
  • gases, salinity, light, pressure, temperature, waste excretions, pollutants, locomotion

Q

What is the importance of Basic Research? What are some examples of Marine Biochemistry applications?

A
  • fascinating, reveals interesting adaptations to extreme environments, never know where it will lead
  • to fix things, we need to know how they work
  • improves understanding of effects of stressors
  • biotechnology (biofuels, aquaculture, etc…)

Q

Why does homeostasis require energy?

A
  • costs energy to decrease entropy

- system tends toward entropy, keeping it stable means fighting against that
