Lecture 0 Flashcards
How do intracellular pathogens interact with internal cellular machinery?
Hijack movement between organelles for their purpose
Ie may use endocytic pathway to enter cell, use Golgi to reproduce, and then further use Golgi to send new replications out of the cell
Membranes: what are they?
Physical barriers between two environments
Linings between parts of the organism which separates distinct areas - ie separating the easily degraded DNA from the degrading enzymes within the proteosome
Not exclusively the plasma membrane

Membranes are not often perfectly spherical, this can in some ways be attributed to the dynamic nature of the membranes as they can change their shape/size if needed (this constant dynamic activity makes it hard to remain perfectly spherical)
