What does authority represent?
The position in which someone is allowed to give orders, to reward and punish, make decisions. It usually comes from tenure and the position a person is in.
What are the sources of organizational power?
Organizational structure, job position, status; control over valuable resources; central position in the information network;
What are the sources of personal power?
Specific personal characteristics, the ability to make decisions and to influence others.
What is coercive power?
according to the model of French and Raven
Influence based on the fact that one person can punish another.
What is reward power?
acc. to French and Raven
Subordinates follow the leader because she has the ability to reward them in some way

What is expert power?
Based on knowledge, competence, doesn’t depend on a position at the company; the person is perceived as an expert
What is referent power?
Power based on interpersonal attraction and subordinates liking of the leader.
