Lec2: Brain Development 1 Flashcards
What are the three parts of the frontal lobe?
Primary Motor Cortex, Planning motor movements, Frontal Association Cortex
What does the frontal association cortex store?
Behaviour, Intelligence, Mood, Personality
What does the primary auditory cortex do?
Listens for TONES
What two things does Wernicke’s area do?
- Interprets what sounds/speech means
2. Filters out unimportant sounds
What does the temporal association cortex store?
Memory, Intelligence, Aggression
What happens if the temporal lobe degrades?
Progressive memory loss relating to the amount of degradation
What do the supramarginal and angular gyri do?
Reading + writing
What is another name for the parietal association cortex?
Occipital association cortex
What does the occipital association cortex do?
- 3D awareness (spatial skills) –> Couch through door
- Recognising shapes/faces –> smiles are positive
- Reading + writing
What does Broca’s area do?
Tells Primary Motor Cortex which nerves to fire to create appropriate motor movements for speech
Where is Broca’s area located relative to the Primary Motor Cortex?
Directly beside the region that represents the face/mouth
What is another name for Crus Cerebri?
Basis pendunculi
What do the Crus Cerebri do?
Carry motor info from brain to spinal cord
What does the substantia nigra contain?
Large, black dopamine producing cells
Where do the fibres of the substantia nigra extend to?
Striatum
