1
Q

A

tx to preserve compromised pulp that remains
-caries, trauma, iatrogenic procedures can compromise a pulp

2
Q

what is an indirect pulp cap

A

material is placed on dentin to cover the pulp
-if it is removed, pulp could be exposed in immature perm teeth

3
Q

do all caries need to be removed to place a pulp cap?

A

YES
-complete caries removal is necessary
-residual caries could compromise the pulp therapy

8
Q

what is a pulp cap

A

treatment done by sealing the pulpal wound w/ CaOH or mineral trioxide aggregate MTA
-facilitates formation of reparative dentin and maintain vital pulp

Q

what is the procedure at UMKC for pulp exposure

A

if pulp is vital and is exposed:
-isolate tooth
-remove all remaining caries
-irrigate w/ 8.3% NaOCL
-place DYCAL on pulp exposure -place temporary restoration (IRM, PARACORE)
-fill out forms and contact endo

*MAKE SURE PULP IS ACTUALLY VITAL BEFORE**

Q

what is a pulpotomy

A

pulp amputation
-removal of the coronal portion of vital pulp
-try to preserve the remaining vital pulp below

Q

what is a partial pulpotomy
(Cvek pulpotomy)

Q

how long should bleeding last in the pulp?

16
Q

what will you do if:
-pulp is brown or yellow
-there is no bleeding

A

pulp is necrotic
DO NOT ATTEMPT PULP CAP

17
Q

bleeding should stop how fast?

A

1-3 minutes

18
Q

MTA has higher success rate than DYCAL

A

TRUE
use MTA in private practice after school

19
Q

3 months after using DYCAL, what is seen histologically?

A

no dentin bridge
pulpal inflammation
zone of necrosis under CaOH
:(

20
Q

3 months after using MTA what is seen histologically?

A

dentin bridge formation
minimal pulpal inflammation
:)

21
Q

success rate of partial pulpotomy

A

98%
more than a complete pulpotomy and pulp capping

22
Q

how do you know if a pulpotomy fails?

A

Pt will start experiencing pain
-means bacteria got into the remaining pulp
-must do complete RCT

23
Q

if the pulp is necrotic, what must occur?

A

a pulpectomy = removal of whole pulp
