Q

In what circumstances should cemented restoration made from cast metal or ceramic be used instead of amalgam or composite resin restorations?

A

l. destruction of tooth structure: if the amount of tooth destruction to be restored is such that the remaining tooth structure must gain strength and protection from the restoration.

  1. Aesthetics.
  2. Plaque control: the use of A cemented restoration demands a good oral hygiene to increase the long-term success of the restoration.
  3. Financial considerations.

Q

When do we use the removable partial denture?

A
  1. For edentulous spaces greater than 2 posterior teeth, anterior spaces greater than 4, or spaces that include a canine and two other contiguous teeth.
  2. Edentulous space with no distal abutment.
  3. Multiple edentulous spaces.
  4. Bilateral edentulous spaces.

Q

How are the requirements of an abutment for a removable partial denture are not as stringent as those for a fixed partial denture abutment?

A
  1. Tipped teeth adjoining edentulous spaces and prospective abutments with divergent alignments may lend themselves more readily to use in removable more than in fixed partial denture abutments.
  2. Periodontally weakened primary abutments may serve better in retaining a well- designed removable partial denture than in bearing the load of a fixed partial denture.
  3. It is also possible to design the partial denture framework so that retentive clasps will be placed on teeth other than those adjacent to the edentulous space.
  4. If there has been a severe loss of tissue in the edentulous ridge.

Q

When do we use conventional tooth supported fixed partial denture?

A

If : 1. Abutment teeth are period ontally sound
2. The edentulous span is short and straight
3. The retainers are well designed and executed

Q

When to use resin-bonded tooth-supported fixed partial denture?

A
  1. On defect-free abutments in situation where there is a single missing tooth usually an incisor or premolar.
  2. A single molar can be placed by this treatment of prosthesis if the patient’s muscle of mastications are not too well developed thus assuring that a minimum load will be placed on the restoration.
  3. It’s useful in younger patients whose immature teeth with large pulps can be prepared without endodontic treatment

Q

How to prepare for the resin bonded bridges?

A
  1. Shallow preparation that is restricted to enamel
  2. Long, well-defined grooves..
  3. Abutment mobility is a serious hazard in the successful of restoration

Q

Note about the resin- bonded prosthesis!!!

A

It cannot be used for replacing missing anterior teeth where there is a deep vertical overlap.

Q

When do we use implant _ supported fixed partial denture?

A
  1. If there is insufficient numbers of abutments or inadequate strength in the abutments to support A conventional fixed partial denture.
  2. When there is no distal abutment.
  3. When Span length is acceptable in terms of alveolar bone , and there is flat ridge configuration that will permit implant placement.
  4. If prospective tooth abutments would require endodontic therapy with or without dowel cores, periodontal surgery, and possibly root resections to support a long_span,complex,and expensive prosthesis.
