Lec 3 Bonding Systems + Generation (Updated!!) Flashcards
1
Q
- Used resin which contained acid and bonds to acidetched dentin.
- This generation lead to very poor clinical results as well as low bond strengths.
A
1st generation
2
Q
- It sought to improve the coupling agents used in the 1st Generation.
- Smear layer was not removed: so relatively weak and unreliable bond strengths.
A
2nd generation
3
Q
- Etching of dentin was introduced in an effort to modify or partially remove the smear layer.
- This opened the dentinal tubules and allowed a primer to be placed after washing off the etchant, which achieved greater bond, after adhesive was applied on both enamel and dentin.
- The problem was that the adhesive did not penetrate the smear layer effectively.
A
3rd generation
4
Q
- Total Etch technique
- Must make sure dentin is kept moist, never over-dried to achieve successful bonding
A
4th generation
5
Q
- Combined the primer and adhesive in one bottle.
- Involves a total etch, rinse, application of primer and adhesive that are already mixed in one bottle.
A
5th generation
6
Q
- Sought to eliminate the etching step.
- Adhesives require no etching at least on dentin surfaces.
- Etch-primer has been mixed, then followed by application of adhesive.
A
6th generation
7
Q
- Sought to eliminate all steps prior to adhering composite or porcelain restorations.
- Every step is completed with only ONE BOTTLE which contain the etch, primer and adhesive.
