Lec 3 Flashcards
Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC)
Store emotional/ valanced information and recodes amygdala
Mid-Cingulate Cortex (MCC)
Select responses (mental or motor) , predict outcomes and resolve ambiguity, and improvise new behaviors for new problems
Amygdala
Invests sensory experience with emotional significance (valance), most prominently involved in fear
Hypothalamus
Autonomic/ hormonal control
Periaqueductal gray (PAG)
Coordinate behaviors; autonomic/ skeletal
produces fully coordinated movements
it has no memory it is controlled my higher brain regions
Locus Coeruleus (LC)
Coordinates responses and enhances storage of emotional memories
Norepineprine
drives fight or flight
Dorsal Raphe Nucleus (DRN)
Regulates mood
Ventromedial Hypothalamus Activation
causes quiet resting and relaxing types of behaviors
Lateral Hypothalamus Activation
causes defensive behaviors
Anterior Cingulate Cortex
Involved in Affect
- stores long-term emotional memories
- operates through the autonomic nervous system
Midcingulate Cortex
Involved in motivated behavior and response selection
- anterior portion is active during fear
- operates through its spinal projections to the skeletomotor system
