Describe Primary Psychiatric Disorder
- Involve psychiatric conditions that result in self-induced cutaneous manifestations
- Skin condition is secondary to the mental health issue
Provide 2 examples of primary psychiatric disorders

Describe how drugs can lead to psychosis
The use of drugs like methanphetamine can lead to formication - which is the feeling of ants crawling on the skin. This can lead to scratching and itching which may result in dermatitis.
Describe Secondary Psychiatric Disorders
- Disorders associated with disfiguring skin disorders, leading to psychological problems
- Mental issue is secondary to the skin condition
Describe Psychophysiological Disorders
Disorders associated with skin problems but are not directly connected to the mind.
I.e. disorders that are adversely affected by stress, behaviour and mood.
E.g. individuals who are stressed are more likely to notice an itch than if they were more relaxed.
