Branch of dentistry pertaining to restoartion of oral function,comfort,appearance and health by the restoration and replacement of missing part of the oral and para-oral structures with artificial substitutes.
Prosthondist
Doctor that specializes prosthodontics.
Natural dentition
Teeth in dental arch
Dentulous
Condition in which natural teeth are present in mouth
Edentulous
Condition which there is no teeth in mouth
Partially edentulous
Condition where some natural teeth lost.
Denture
Artificial substitute for missing natural teeth and adjacent tissue
Complete vs. Partial dentures
C- dental prosthesis that replaces entire dentition
P- dental prosthesis that replaces one or more teeth but not all.
Fixed partial denture
Partial denture that is cemented to natural teeth or tooth roots and or fixed to dental implant
Removable partial denture
Partial denture that can be removed
Function of complete dentures
